about
Taken from the charity release, ‘Songs for Karen’, in loving memory of Merry HQs mummy, Karen, who died unexpectedly in her 50s – devastatingly too soon, especially heart-breaking as she helped so many others in her life, leaving a big void.
The week after it happened, through pure coincidence, we had Chris Payn coming up to ours to record some music. The original song we were going to work on was a love song for Roxie which obviously wasn’t where our heads were at. Instead, we decided to get these three songs recorded for Karen’s funeral and recorded them that very weekend, in mourning, in tears, ripped to pieces – music pulled us through.
We then got the very best of the Merry collective to record their parts in time for the funeral – full horns and strings. This also included those who played at the church for Mischa and Roxie’s wedding – Emma Waas (who also made Roxie’s wedding dress) on violin and one of the earliest Merry Men, Roland on cello. We’d like to thank everyone from the bottom of our heart that pulled together to make these recordings happen, it was an incredible collaborative effort with a very short turnaround to get it all ready.
The artwork was done by our in-band #MerryMaiden Eleanor Pasco.
This song is raising money for Teddy20 and Teddy Rocks Festival

A zero admin (no-one gets paid / all money raised goes to the grassroots cause) charity which the Merry Many and Karen have helped support over the last few years. The fantastic work they do supporting children with cancer and their families is magnificent and life-changing for so many young lives.
lyrics
Take a deep breath, it’s no secret, that everything will be ok
Why can’t we? Just be happy, enjoy, this heavenly bliss.
Or is there something that I’ve missed?
You write for the kids,
Or they won’t buy your hits anymore
So you write songs, without any words
Now your voice can’t be heard.
I find it difficult, in a place as magical as this, all the wonder we’re shown
Why don’t we, observe history, and realise, that we’re not alone.
Omens show us the way home.
You write for the kids,
Or they won’t buy your hits anymore
So you write songs, without any words
Now your voice can’t be heard.
And they’re bound to say,
Get ya head out of the clouds
Get your feet back on the ground
You’re crazy.
Why stand out from the crowd
What the hell you talking about
You’re crazy.
